All of the Things I Watched and Read in Quarantine

As we have all been stuck at home since March (which might I add feels like a lifetime ago at this point) I have been trying to keep myself busy as the months and months of isolation roll on. I have found myself reading more than ever during quarantine and watching so many shows back to back, because what else is there to do?

As we start to open up again and try to adjust to our new normal, I thought I would share some of the things I read and watched that made staying at home fun and as we continue to social distance, you can check some of these out and hopefully enjoy them as much as I did.

Shows
This sitcom-style show is about the life of a first-generation Indian-American teenager. Created by Mindy Kaling, the show is heartbreaking and funny. It'll have you laughing your ass off and in seconds have you in tears. 10/10 need to watch!

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
I'm sure most of you have watched it or at least seen parts of it growing up. At the beginning of quarantine, I was rewatching it and remembering just how much I loved this show. It deals with serious topics but will have you rolling with laughter in no time.

This powerful show tells the story of a young black boy named Brenton Butler after he dies in a hit-and-run accident caused by a white police officer. The show follows the Butler family and depicts the racial tensions in Jersey city as they try to find justice for their son. With all of the racial injustices happening around the world, this show was a must-see and important to watch. If you have seen When They See Us, this would be another great show to continue the education on black lives.

As a basketball fan, this docu-series that followed the 1997-1998 Chicago Bulls team excited me. It was really interesting to see what was going on within the team and how the players recount the stories. If you are a sports fan or just interested in such a momentous time in sports, this is for you.

Books
This book is about a young lawyer, Bryan Stevenson who founded the Equal Justice Initiative which is a legal practice dedicated to defending those in need. He takes on the case of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit. It follows both of their stories as they try to navigate race and the justice system in America. A great insight into the justice system during that time.

A story about a teenage mother, her daughter, and her Abuela. Emoni Santiago has had to make hard decisions with the endless responsibilities that come with having a child. The place where all of that goes away is in the kitchen. She is a talented chef and dreams of working in the best restaurants. All of that is a dream until she takes her school's new culinary class and she heads off to Spain. There she delves deep into her passion for cooking and has to figure out how to make everything work. Such a beautiful story and the bond between Emoni, her daughter and Abuela makes my heart melt.

This thrilling YA follows the lives of rich families that have one too many lies. Can't say much without giving spoilers but this is a must-read for any YA lovers who need a little bit of a switch from the typical lovey-dovey novel.

This story is about two college rivals turned authors who write in two different genres. When they reconnect during the summer, they realize they aren't so different and challenge each other to write in their opposite genres. The only catch is they can't fall in love with each other. This book was such a cute read and loved the banter between the characters.

Let me know what you have been loving in the comments!
