Writing About... Following Your Dreams

This week I decided I wanted to start something new, I feel like these days I don't have much to write about. But, I don't want that to stop me from just writing. So, I've decided to start kind of a series where I pick random questions or topics I feel like I can expand on and just write about it.

If you could live your biggest dream, no roadblocks, what would that dream consist of?

Growing up, music was always and still is the biggest part of my life. I started really getting into music when I was 8 years-old and when I was about 10, I started playing guitar. My life always revolved around music, I was never athletic or good at math so music was all I had. Since I was very little, sitting on my parents' bed singing along with the whatever song was playing on MuchMusic I knew I wanted to be a singer. As I got older, the dream of wanting to become a musician became harder and harder.

Musicians work so hard to get to where they are and they're so confident in what they're doing that it scared me because I was never as confident as others were. The one thing that still holds me back is the stress that comes before a performance. It literally scares the crap out of me weeks before I have a performance. But, once I'm on stage whether it's just me or with other people, I feel completely at ease.

So, if I could live out one of my dreams, it would be just that. A singer. The thought of being on stage and singing, doing the thing I love the most in the world sends butterflies through my stomach. If there's one thing I know it's that no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are, putting yourself out there is the only way to conquer your fear. Feeling confident on stage may come naturally for some people but if it doesn't for you, (like me) then work towards it and someday you will be as confident as your favourite singer.
