Inside Out Review
It has been a while since I've written a post so here is one that I'm excited to share.
I recently watched Inside out and it has to be one of the most heartfelt and profound Disney/Pixar movies I think I have ever seen.
Inside out was released in June 2015 and since then has picked up over 86 nominations and even an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year. This movie tells the story of the ever-changing 11-year old Riley who moves from her Midwest life in Minnesota to San Francisco. With the help of her emotions, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, they help Riley in day to day activities. When trouble occurs in Headquarters, Joy's main focus is to keep Riley positive.
This movie has so many sides to it. It is heartfelt and a great family movie. You get to see the kind of relationship Riley has with her parents and her friends. It really makes me so gushy on the inside to see how truly happy she is when she's spending time with her family or with her friend Meg. Being an only child like Riley in the film, all those memories we got to see of her and her parents made me all teary-eyed because it made me think about how lucky I am to have such a great family.
Another thing that I loved was how we got to see how Riley's brain worked. For someone like me who loves psychology, seeing stuff like her long-term memory or them talking about the REM and dreams was really interesting. For a Disney/Pixar movie it's pretty different to be able to talk about something as complicated as the mind but they managed to make it seem simple.
This film was so creative in a way that is different from any other animated movie. I feel as though they really captured the mind of an 11-year old girl without going overboard. The emotions were an incredible way to reflect Riley's personality and at times how we were feeling during the movie.
Everyone involved in making Inside Out, whether that be the voice actors, directors, screenwriters etc. They did a fantastic job with this film.
9/10 stars for me!
