We Day Toronto
This year I was lucky enough to volunteer at We Day Toronto! It was my first time volunteering and going to see the actual show.
If you don't know what We Day is, it's the celebration of youth who've made a difference in their communities and for the world. This is an initiative from Free The Children who are a global charity and education partner that engages and empowers the youth to become agents of change. The first We Day was held in Toronto back in 2007 where 8,000 youth came together at Richo's Coliseum to learn about the world around them and celebrate how they've helped change the world. Since then We Day has inspired so many more and now holds 19,800 youth at the Air Canada Center every year.
I have always known about this initiative and was always curious about it but my elementary nor my high school were ever really involved in any of their actions plans so I never got to experience it. But this year I was fortunate enough to know someone who's done We Day before and she really encouraged me to go for it.
At We Day I was a crowd pumper, so basically what you do is you're assigned a section and all you have to do is keep the energy levels high throughout the show. It was such an amazing experience and to have been able to meet so many awesome people who are all there for the same reason was so cool.
The show itself was absolutely incredible. It was so inspirational and really makes you think about how lucky we are to have what we have and really encourages you to make a difference. Some of my favourites at We Day were, Demi Lovato, Hozier, Nick Jonas, Spencer West and obviously Craig & Marc Kielburger.
I honestly recommend volunteering for We Day to anyone, no matter what you're position is, it's still an amazing and inspiring experience.
Be the change.
xoxo
Meagan
